Community Leaders Forum 2017, was held on November 16-17, at the Ambassador Kachreti Hotel. The purpose of the event was to share experiences between community groups, to establish and deepen connections between community organizations and stakeholders.
The first part of the event was dedicated to the presentation of the results of the project "Empowerment of Women for Change", in addition to a panel discussion on rural development strategy and opportunities in the country.
The second part of the event was dedicated directly to community projects, working on a joint initiative on the ground. As part of a community initiative joint working group meeting, community organizations rallied around a priority issue for them. Each group prepared a project application. At the end of the event, the winning initiative group was awarded GEL 3,000 for the project. The winner of the competition was the team "This is my homeland", which united 5 communities of 3 municipalities. The aim of the joint community initiative was to disseminate information and raise awareness about protected areas in 3 municipalities.
The event was organized with the support of the UN Joint Program on Gender Equality and the ongoing project "Empowering Women for Change". This project is implemented with the financial support of the Swedish government. The event was also financially supported by the organization "Bread for the World".
